Classic Inca Trail

July of 2010 will remain in our memory as the most engaging and panoramic yet formidable trip of our lives to date. We are 60 and 68 years of age in good physical condition however the care and professional attention afforded us by Pablo, our guide, and the Enigma porters and cook, allowed us to enjoy our own levels of agony and ecstasy on this fantastic journey.

We spent 3 nights on the trail and the fourth at the Sanctuary Lodge at Machu Picchu. On day two, when we were not feeling well and struggling with the altitude, Pablo was extremely solicitous. His advice was invaluable (such as longer lunch rest and buying Gatorade along the trail) and his willingness to accommodate both our preference for pace of the trek as well as our love of photography made this experience the opportunity of a lifetime!

I simply cannot find enough adjectives to explain our respect and admiration for the team that accompanied us on our trek. The porters were amazing and friendly - at one point even cheering for us as we summited our third and final pass of the trek. Our cook provided nutritious and tasty meals with the ease of performing a magic trick! And Pablo enthusiastically shared his love of the Andes and the Andean people. He willingly responded to our request to learn a bit of the Quechua language, adding in Spanish lessons as necessary and teaching us the history of the trail as we trekked. His knowledge of the flora and fauna was icing on the cake!

Selections from our hundreds of photos taken on the Inka Trail will hang on our walls forever, however our hearts and minds need no reminders. We shall never forget this wonderfully excruciating experience and sense of personal achievement as we surveyed Machu Picchu from Intipunku. Thank you all for your vision to provide this opportunity to share your magnificent part of the world and for your extremely professional approach to every aspect of the adventure.

Short Inca Trail

We were a group from Langdale Holidays in the UK guided by Alberto and Julio. At Winay Wayna one of our group fell and had an epileptic fit. Alberto sent Julio on to the nearby cafe / campsite to get porters whilst he dealt very professionally with the casualty and the remainder of the group. At all times he was calm and reassuring. When the porters arrived Alberto went with them and the casualty while Julio led the rest of the group to continue the trek (the casualty was eventually OK and rejoined our activities us in Cusco.) All of the time Alberto was with us (the next day too), he impressed us with his professionalism (particularly his pacing of the walk to the ability of the participants) and his knowledge of the Incas and their trails, and of the flora and fauna. We have been on many guided events all over the world and he is amongst the best. I was a qualified UK Joint Services (Army, Navy, Air Force) Mountain Leader, so I know a good one when I see one! Julio, too, impressed. When he took over we thought that he would just take us on to Machu Picchu, but he stopped many times to tell us of the local flowers and birds, and not only did his knowledge appear good, but his enthusiasm for his environment was very evident. We shall recommend Enigma to our friends, and when we return to Peru we shall use you directly. Please pass on our congratulations and best wishes to Alberto and Julio. Thanks!.

Luxury Treks

It is nearly impossible to choose one aspect to highlight. The entire trip was a flawless experience. A perfect combination of comfort, knowledge and caring. The deep respect for the country, the mountains, the Peruvian people, was converged in everything we experienced. This was a magnificent experience that would not have been possible without Alberto, Luciano, Fabrizio and Sule, these guides not only took care of us, but displayed an obvious respect and care for the cooks, the porters and the masseurs. I will keep Peru and the mountains in my heart.

Other Treks

The service was great, our guide extremely passionate and knowledgeable about quechua culture. The chef prepared three amazing local meals a day! And the porters were also fantastic! Making our travels and camping so easy. Our tour to Machupicchu was incredible and our guide in my opinion gave us the best tour of all. AN UNFORGETABLE EXPERIENCE.
